I think we can all agree that springing forward in the middle of the night sucks, because you lose an hour of precious weekend time.
Therefore, I propose that, going forward, we roll our clocks forward on the 2nd Friday of March, at 11 am. I think we can all agree that this is a better solution.
We’ll still roll the clocks back at 2 am Sunday morning in the fall, that works just fine, thanks.
On an unrelated note, I have consumed my body weight in coffee this morning...

Easy fix. Don’t have it.

The only way I would support that is if we moved to daylight savings time all year long. Having long hours of evening daylight in the summer is f*cking awesome.

Tennessee has tried passing this bill a few times. I think it’s just a matter of time.

The Europeans do summer right - they seem to have it set up so that the sun rises around 7 even in the summer, but it’s still light out around 10 pm.
If we went to daylight savings all year, I’m not sure I’d see the sun at all for 5 months, though...

I think we should move DST to 4:00 on Monday and go home an hour early. And then also put Standard Time on a Monday so we get an extra hour of sleep on a Monday morning when we really need it.

I live in (hard to spell, easy to draw) SASKATCHEWAN. We don’t observe DST. You get Colbert at 9:30 at night in the summer, the sun comes up at 2:45 am, Google calendar cannot fucking cope with our floating time zone. and people here have come to blows arguing about it twice a year. Seriously, it’s a local cultural thing, conspiracies, some who argue we’re already on double-daylight savings already (we’re permanent central standard) It’s bizarre. I grew up on DST and appreciate the extra hour of sun in the summer. My lifestytle would never notice an hour of sleep either way.

I debated whether to put the spring forward on Friday morning or Monday afternoon. I like the idea of fast forwarding to the weekend, but they’re both good solutions and way the hell better than Sunday morning.

Besides being fairly far north, you’re also in the western part of the time zone. I’m in the eastern part of the same time zone (Chicago) and without DST, it would get dark by 8 in the summer which is bullshit.
I would almost think that your days are so long in the summer (and so short in the winter) it might not matter too much.

In Arizona, they actually *want* summer evenings to be dark, unlike most of the rest of the country.

The further north you go, the later the summer sun sets. reverse in the winter.

My idea: give up following the exact time and live just by the calendar. Just go to work after you have woken up and see if there’s rush hour or not. Return to home after you feel like you have been working enough for one day or you have had too much coffee to do operate anymore.
No more meeting schedules. The organizer just brings nicely smelling treats to attract suitable people to attend.

My mom used to live in Tucson, and she could never remember if TX was one hour or two hours ahead. Not that I blame her. Changing clocks is stupid. The worst was when my kids were small and it only screwed up the sleep schedule I had spent months cultivating.

Yup - and being in the western part of the time zone, AND up north, you get a double dip on late sunsets in the summer (I presume that’s where the ‘double-daylight’ argument comes from).
We used to vacation up in Northern Wisconsin/Minnesota, and I just loved how long the summer evenings were up there- - it’s even more true for you. Although I’ve been to Alaska in June and that’s actually too much sun - hard to sleep.

Yeah, we’re experiencing that now for the first time, really. Yesterday, our son didn’t nap until 5:30, woke up at 8, and was racing around the family room at 90 miles an hour at 11 pm...

Florida is working on passing a bill so we no longer fall back. My sleep schedule would appreciate it but it’s gonna suck getting up when it’s pitch black still.

Yeah, I would prefer not getting rid of it entirely - I hate getting up in the dark in the winter, but I love long summer evening twilight.

Unfortunately I still have to keep up with the time too. I’m nearly always late at work but I’ll miss the lunch if I don’t set up any alarm...
